First Circle
by Pat Metheny
Arranged by Peter B. Emerson
I wrote this arrangement of Pat Metheny's song First Circle for the Harker Height High School Jazz Choir. I have 15 singers and a student drummer and bass player. We tracked this recording over a four day period of time, starting with a sequence of the arrangement that I created in Logic. We replaced the sequenced tracks one by one, using it as a click/scratch track. Spent the first day recording bass, drums the second, and the last two days we recorded vocals. Later the last day, I replaced the piano track from Logic by recording myself on the Steinway B that we keep in our auditorium. The lead synth and pan flute are the only surviving parts of the original sequence. Everything else is played by a student or myself in real time. With the exception of the piano, all of this was done during the 50 minutes of class time that I see the kids.

2009 Knight Club Performance of "Hoedown" by ELP
2008 Knight Club Performance of "Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter
Here are a couple of songs that I've written and recorded using Logic Pro software. The first song, I'll Find It, was written over the summer of 2008 after our return from Hawaii. The second song, On My Way Back Home, was written and recorded in September and features three of my Harker Heights students singing backup (Devony Bailey, Sasha Moore and Jhetira Chandler).
Both of these songs are inspired by the idea that Voyager may try to have a reunion concert some time in the future. The underlying theme is a yearning for home.
Project B was a jazz group comprised of myself on keys and vocals, band director Patrick Trahan on sax, and students Sam Billew on bass and Charles Reid on Drums. We played together most Fridays during "B" Lunch, thus the name of the group. We played one gig in the cafeteria. Other than that it was a learning experience for the kids.
Here are a few of the things that I recorded from Project B, using my Presonus rig and recording into Logic on my Mac Pro tower.

80's Music Project with Jennifer Baldwin
I've recently started collaborating with singer Jennifer Baldwin on a jazz project that was inspired by a series of recordings that she heard a few years ago. We are now building a repertoire of classic pop and rock tunes from the 1980's and I'm arranging them for a small group jazz setting. The project has been lots of fun so far, and we've gotten great response from everyone fortunate to hear what we're doing. Below, I've included some material that we've recorded for a promotional demo. On these recordings you will hear charts written and performed with Jen on lead vocals and myself playing all of the accompanying instruments through the use of Apple's Logic Pro. Hope you enjoy.
